Center for Maternal and Fetal Care and MFM Consultation

fetal_surgery.jpgIn conjunction with our maternal-fetal medicine colleagues, the neonatologists and the NICU support the Center for Maternal and Fetal Care at UMMC.

All high-risk mothers, or those mothers with fetuses diagnosed as high risk due to congenital anomalies or other issues, are evaluated by a team of physicians including maternal-fetal medicine (MFM), neonatology, pediatric cardiology, pediatric surgery, genetics and neurosurgery. The fetus is diagnosed using fetal ECHO, fetal MRI, the latest genetic testing and other modalities.

A plan of care and delivery is established with the family and continued observation occurs until delivery. A neonatologist consults with each family at the time of high-risk diagnosis, or at shortly before delivery at the time of admission.
